Sleep Coaching Questions and Answers

What is holistic sleep coaching?

Sleep coaching is a collaborative, personalized process designed to help you improve and prioritize your sleep and energy. I look at you as a whole person; your nutrition, exercise routine, responsibilities, and thought patterns – as sleep is a winding road through each of these, and more.

In 1:1 coaching we uncover the lifestyle and belief factors contributing to your unique sleep struggle or goal. We implement steady changes aimed at discovering quality sleep patterns, all while acknowledging that shifting sleep-related habits is some of the most challenging work we can do.

In group coaching we focus on understanding the science of sleep and harnessing that science to empower teams, members, and students to show up during their days as their best selves.

How do I get started?

1:1 clients who work with me feel ready to commit to change. If this applies to you, you can get started by sending me a message and we’ll schedule a free consultation.

Once we begin, I do an in-depth holisitic assessment of both your night and daytime habits.
This analysis serves as my core understanding of your health and history, and as we meet we begin to add on the layers of your personal journey, the standards you want to set for yourself, and your motivation for change.

For group coaching, we’ll start by hopping on a call to talk through how/why you’re looking to support your team through sleep coaching and discussing different format options.

What's your approach?

People often ask me: What do you do differently from everyone else?

Primarily, my practice is inquiry-based. Meaning, I ask targeted questions based on your history, sleep experience, and lifestyle. Through this process you uncover root cause, unrecognized beliefs, intentions, and motivations for change.

I never make assumptions about your experience or what will help you most. We ground our reasoning in sleep science and your intuition. One-size-fits-all fixes become a thing of the past.

One of my favorite sleep coaching terms is “layers”. We add in layers in the form of new habits, core belief reflection, and perspective shifts, creating space that wasn’t there before.

I'm not sure if coaching is the right fit. What should I do next?

I encourage you to join one of my free community Sleep Walk events.

I hold these monthly in Bloomington for adults who want to gather and talk about sleep – their own sleep, the sleep culture in our community, what they’re looking to change, and the challenges they’re up against.

I am a free resource to you throughout this walk and you get a feel for what sleep coaching is all about.

Each month’s specific sleep walk details are published on Instagram and Facebook. If you’re interested in a virtual version of the Sleep Walk, please reach out.

Why choose coaching instead of talking to my healthcare provider?

Coaching is not a replacement for medical services. And, medical services are not a replacement for coaching.

The reality of our healthcare system today is that our practitioners, to no fault of their own, simply do not have space to help us understand how to integrate a change, let alone which change is most likely to support our unique sleep. I choose the coaching model because it works not just now, but for the entire life you go on living after our time together. Coaching is built for long-term solutions that you can rely on even when sleep changes.

Clients often leave our sessions feeling more prepared to talk with a healthcare provider about their symptoms, medications, and supplements.

Why do you do this work?

While my story began out of my own sleep journey, it was after, as I emerged from the haze – that the clarity came:

Our sleep culture in America is broken. Without choice, we live with daylight savings time, our easiest access to food in grocery stores is ultra-processed, and our 8-hour workdays make less time for exercise, morning routines, and social bonding – all which influence sleep.

There’s no replacement for taking back control of something that tries to place limits on you. This is why I say that I help adults discover and overcome the lifestyle obstacles getting in the way of restorative sleep; not remove, not ignore, but overcome. And, its through coaching that we learn how to live well regardless of the sleep challenges that surface, and use those as an opportunity to find our way back.
