Welcome To DiscoverZzz

Hi, I’m Hannah. Nice to meet you!

I founded DiscoverZzz on the belief that the US healthcare system is not getting to the root cause of adults’ sleep challenges. The system – the providers – react with a protocol, instead of stopping to ask – “why”? And let the truth ring – you will never find the same answer twice.

So – this is my job. I stop, I ask, I listen, understand, share perspective, and encourage. My certification and experience allow me to look at your sleep more broadly than many healthcare providers or therapists, and together we identify your root cause. Then, you begin to make lasting change.

Everyone has a sleep story. Here’s mine.

My story brought me here. After obtaining my MS in Recreation and going on to work for Indiana University for six years in an operations & mentorship role, I developed sudden, severe sleep onset insomnia – in other words, I couldn’t fall asleep and couldn’t figure out how to make it stop. All eight doctors I saw over the course of a year tried to help me in the ways they knew how – but none stopped to look closely and ask: but what’s unique about you?

And really, the answer was right there all along. This journey led me to becoming a certified Holistic Adult Sleep Coach through the International Parenting and Health Institute and is what created DiscoverZzz. My clients show me everyday the difference that inquiry, broad understanding, and motivation can really make in finding restorative sleep.

I work with clients experiencing a broad range of sleep challenges. Keep in mind that many boxes overlap.

Onset Insomnia

Trouble falling asleep

Everyone’s experience is different. While some have a busy mind or feel worried about sleep and need tools to overcome these – for some, additional complexities like circadian rhythm dysregulation, food sensitivity/allergy, the disrupting presence of a bed partner, hyperarousal, & more are layered in.

Maintenance Insomnia

Trouble staying asleep

Individuals may experience frequent, unwanted awakenings during the night sometimes coupled with difficulty falling back to sleep. We understand what’s normal, what’s not, and what’s often perceieved incorrectly. Here we may also see late-night insomnia, where someone frequently wakes earlier than desired.

Sleep Apnea

Apnea Events

Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common and also the most underdiagnosed sleep disorder in the world. We can have apnea events without meeting the diagnostic criteria for sleep apnea, and sleep/daytime energy can still be impacted. Not all apnea is obstructive, CPAP isn’t the best answer for everyone, and you have options.

RLS, PLMD

Restless legs, before and during sleep

Often described as a creepy-crawly sensation in the legs at bedtime, Restless Leg Syndrome can be common in certain populations, and at certain times of life. Its close cousin, Periodic Limb Movement Disorder, lives more silently during sleep and is often first recognized by a bed partner. I help you identify and implement holistic options to address both.

The Complex Body

Age-related sleep changes

We naturally lose some sleep quality and quantity as we age. This doesn’t mean our bodies need medication to sleep – it does mean we may need to take more intentional steps to nourish our sleep rhythms than in younger years. I help you identify and understand your changing patterns and what supports to layer in to maximize your sleep and energy.

Hormone Shifts

Hormone-related sleep changes

Our primary sleep-wake hormones are melatonin and cortisol. These, along with many others, influence sleep throughout our lives. This can show up in circadian rhythm, menopause, pregnancy, traveling to different time zones, night shift work, medical diagnoses like ADHD, and more.

Dependence

Chronic sleep aid use

Some – often for a very good reason – have relied on sleep aids to find sleep, sometimes for months or years. A sleep aid can be defined as anything medicinal you take, both Rx and OTC, to help you sleep. Together, we understand how certain aids can impact sleep quality & uncover full-body support for the transition back to natural sleep.

Morning/Daytime Sleepiness

Unfreshing sleep

Sometimes – or even often – we sleep, but it doesn’t feel like good sleep. Together, we look closely at sleep architecture, the possibility of nutrient deficiencies (and where they came from), underlying medical conditions – including but not limited to dysglycemia – and more.

Working Against Ourselves

Stress challenges

I work alongside clients with mental and/or physical stress related to change, grief, overwhelm, and personal or work responsibilities. We identify the presence of stress, the source(s), and understand how it impacts the body holistically – in particular, sleep.
